Annual Report May 2015

It is my privilege to present my second annual report. MCOBA has taken some great steps forward this year, but not large enough. As with all voluntary organisations, we are totally dependent on people’s available time. Hopefully we will shortly receive assistance in the form of an administration person to relieve basic administration and improve continuity.

This year’s most notable project would be our car delivery program in association with Blenheim Toyota. It was great to meet many of our Old Boys who kindly volunteered their time to deliver new rental vehicles to Picton. As a result of this project, your MCOBA has been able to contribute over $20,000 to the college’s four pillars initiative.

During the year we have seen the establishment of our web site, extensive social media presence and a regular Parapet magazine sent out by electronic mail. Thankfully, we have finally got our accounting set up in Xero and are starting to build a reliable database of members. To those of you who have received duplicated invoicing, my apologies. Dominic has been working with Sandra Robinson to create a meaningful database of members, which to date we have not had. Personally, I have enjoyed working with the positive attitude of Wayne Hegarty and his team during the uncertain period of the schools possible relocation. Whatever the outcome, the MCOBA will be most important to maintain the college’s traditions and history. As Old Boy’s we need to encourage our school mates to become interested in the Old Boys’ Association. This year I must thank Sandra Robinson for her computer skills and Jill Adams for taking on the organisation and coordination of the vehicle delivery project. Your organisation has been able to donate over $25,000 to the college this year. Leading the contributions is $19,500 to support leadership training, followed by $3,115 to provide swimming pool maintenance support. We continued to support academic excellence and positive student attitudes with our end of year academic prizes.

As a result of our improved social media presence, it has been great to engage with Old Boy’s throughout the world, who still take a keen interest in the college sports team results and general news. Thank you to past pupil Logan Anderson for his contributions to enhancing our social media. Thank you also to John Bailey our tireless secretary, who keeps our minutes with precision and provide excellent secretarial support. In conclusion I would like to thank the committee for their support and attendance at our meetings and hope to see more of our members attending our bi-monthly open lunch meeting at Fairweather’s in the future.
