Bequests: Remember MBC in your will

A legacy to benefit future ‘Marlborough Men’ can be left to the college. Generous personal contributions have helped the college to date and have ensured the schools long term sustainability.

Bequests can be given for specific objectives which might include capital items, provision for student support or teacher development. Gifts of this nature are a powerful way of supporting your old school in perpetuity, at a level not possible during your lifetime.

Various types of Bequests are possible. They are;

Specific Bequest;

A gift being a fixed sum of money, property, stocks and shares, valuable works of art. You may prefer to index link your sums of money, to avoid your gift being devalued by inflation.

Percentage of Estate;

A gift that is stated as a percentage of your estate.

Residual Bequest;

A gift that involves leaving all or a portion of the remaining assets of your estate after all debts, taxes, fees, and other bequests have been paid.

Deferred Bequest;

A gift that provides for any relatives and friends during their lifetime, but also benefits the college after their death.

If you are living outside New Zealand, please contact your solicitor in the country of residence for advice on making a bequest with regard to local probate law and tax regulations.

To arrange these, we recommend the involvement of your solicitor. Your existing Will can be amended, or you can simply add a Codicil.

Your generosity will enable MBC to continue its vision of excellence and the provision of a top class teaching environment.
